At the Fire
Chief signal, the ICT Alarm Technicians will set off the alarms in a
selected building. EH&S and DFES will count personnel exiting and
time the evacuations. Employees are expected to know their emergency
action plan and where to go in the event of an emergency evacuation.
As part of the review DFES and EH&S will check with personnel for
areas where alarms can not be heard, check for updated Emergency Action
Plans and discuss any problems noted. Building
monitors should bring any problems with alarms to the DFES' or
EH&S' attention. Repair of lighted exit signs, emergency lighting,
and related equipment can be written as a OFS work request in the AiM
system (https://fms-prod.nmsu.edu/fmax/login).
Other safety problems can be addressed in person, by phone, or by email
to EH&S (see contact information below). Later in
the month, DFES will conduct fire evacuation drills at all residence
halls and Greek housing. They will provide emergency response and
extinguisher training to residence hall assistants. DFES will also
provide fire safety information at booths set up at the Residence
Halls, Greek Complex and Corbett Center during first few weeks of the
fall semester. For more
details on the Emergency Preparedness Safety Initiatives see the
EH&S webpage at http://safety.nmsu.edu/news/updates/2010safetyinitatives.html Thank you -- David Shearer, Assistant Director, Environmental Health & Safety, Adjunct Faculty Geology, DACC, New Mexico State University, PO Box 30001 / MSC-3578, Las Cruces, NM 88003, Phone: 575-646-3327, Fax: 575-646-7898 ![]() |
