Fall 2013 Lab Refresher Safety Class

NMSU Environmental Health and Safety is providing four Annual Refresher classes for Lab Safety in October.

This safety seminar class will count as annual lab safety refresher training for registered individuals that have completed the regular Laboratory Standard and/or Hazardous Waste Management classes (See safety class descriptions at

EH&S will present the 60-min. lab refresher classes on the following dates:

  • October 11, Friday, at 1:30 pm in Jett Hall [rm283], as a Chemical Engineering Seminar;
  • October 24, Thursday, at 12 pm in the Chemistry Building auditorium [rm153], as a Chemistry seminar;
  • October 25, Friday, at 3:30 pm in Gerald Thomas auditorium  [rm194], as PES seminar for College of Agriculture;
  • October 31, Thursday, at 4 pm in Foster Hall [rm231], as a Biology Seminar (limited seating, Biology only);

Researchers, faculty, GAs, & employees in other NMSU science or engineering lab groups, e.g. physics, geology, civil & mechanical engineering, engineering technology, DACC labs, etc, are welcome to attend any one of the first three [above].  Registration via is required to document your attendance and to minimize crowding.

Note: Again, be advised that this safety refresher class is not the initial Laboratory Standard Safety Class required for university lab users (researchers, faculty, GAs, TA, post-docs, and undergrad employees), nor does it cover the initial Employee & Hazcom Safety requirements for chemical users. This 60-90 minute refresher class is sufficient for the OSHA-required annual training under the Lab Standard regulations.  Those individuals that have attended 2013 Lab Standard Class do not need the annual OSHA safety refresher until 2014 (Note: your Department, PI, or lab manager may require attendance).

Additional details on class description and online registration are provided at EH&S website at For other questions, please email or call David Shearer, Asst. Director, EH&S 646-3327.
