NMSU operated a solid waste landfill from 1974 to 1989, and has implemented closure activities per requirements New Mexico Environment Department Solid Waste Bureau requirements (our solid waste is now disposed of at a permitted regional landfill). The NMSU Environmental Health Safety & Risk Management (EHS&RM) Department monitors subsurface soil gas and groundwater to ensure public safety.
