NMSU has guidelines to ensure proper registration and insurance coverage for each UAS device flown on behalf of NMSU.

1. EHS&RM must be notified of all UAS purchases for NMSU personnel to ensure proper FAA registration and insurance coverage.
2. EHS&RM will register each UAS with the FAA and the State of NM Risk Management Division.
3. FAA Registration Fee of $5.00 and annual insurance premiums for each device will be allocated to each department. Departmental index will be requested during registration.

Insurance

Premium cost is variable each year, but for UAS devices less than $10,000 in value, the cost varies between $200-300 annually. For devices, greater than $10,000 in value, the cost is based on calculation of 7-10% of value. These costs are subject to change each year based on fluctuating insurance markets.

Indoor only UAS, do not require insurance coverage, but should be registered with EHS&RM.

3^rd Party UAS Vendor

3rd party UAS vendors will be required to upload in the flight request form:

1. FAA Registration document
2. Certificate of Insurance showing coverage that meets the NMSU minimum requirements
3. Flight Operations Safety Plan
